The Middle Path: Spirituality after Religion
Mormon Apostates are Silenced
Studies show that survivors of trauma benefit greatly from discussing their pain. Yet survivors of religious trauma are labeled apostates and shamed into silence. The #lds church paints such a toxic picture of apostates that when members find themselves on their way out, they're afraid to speak. Their family, friends, and community silence them. This shaming practice isolates "apostates" and keeps them from processing their religious trauma.
Jayenna left the Mormon church 15 years ago. Cat left 25 years ago. It has taken them both decades to break this conditioning and speak against these abusive practices.
